Starting off...

Thanks for trying Gmail-UNO!

Gmail-UNO was started by me as a hobby project.

The project may become open source if I feel it is ready.

Why Gmail?

I chose to incorporate UNO into Gmail because I was bored at school,
I wanted to play games with my friends during class but not be too suspicious.
The teachers would always check our screens to make sure we were doing work, but they didn't mind us checking our emails, so I used that to our advantage.

What's Next?

By checking the newly added Patch Notes, you can see what's been added in each update.

But for now, the TODO list consists of:

• Achievements. (Requires Dedicated Server)
• Account System. (Requires Dedicated Server)
• Dedicated Server. (Needs Funding)
• Direct Messages. (Requires Dedicated Server)
• Easier to use (but not revealing) GUI.
• Exiting mid-game.
• Fixing server crashes every 10m. (Requires Dedicated Server)
• Invite Links. (Requires Dedicated Server)
• Joining mid-game.
• Kicking users from lobbies.
• Leaderboards with statistics. (Requires Dedicated Server)
• Other Games.
• Saving full games as readable text files.
• Saving full games as JSON files.
• Spectating Games.
• Useful Cards. (Eg: Yellow +4, Skip, etc.)

As you can see, there is a lot more potential for this project.

"Needs Funding"??

Yes, dedicated servers require monthly/yearly payments to uphold and keep up online.

Of course, there are free alternatives, but they dumb down most (if not all) of the parts the game requires for the above "(Requires Dedicated Server)" features.

Here are just some of the limitations of our current provider:

• Cannot read/write external files, making account systems impossible.
• Frequent server maintenance, shutting down the server for weeks at a time.
• Limited resources, making the game laggier and slower, breaking the turn system and future time limits.
• Limited resources also affects lobby count, there are 60+ million different lobby combos, but too many can slow the whole server down or crash it altogether.
• Server connection may stop working due to a link changing.
• Server shuts down if no traffic is coming through and needs to be manually restarted.
• No access to tools.
• No private beta-testing.
• And more limitations...
